About Sootara

Sootara
is a singer and songwriter with a unique way of writing and viewing the world. She does not write using an instrument, rather the songs come to her and she records them vocally and works with them in this way. She generally avoids listening to other peoples' music, so that what comes through to her is unique and new.

Her debut CD, Allies of the Heart, is immensly musical, inspiring and uplifting. Sootara sought out Joe Puerta of Ambrosia and Bruce Hornsby and the Range fame, to produce her album.  She resumed vocal lessons with Ian Garratt (vocal coach to Shania Twain) to prepare for the album, and also appeared on the same album as Shania.

As a performer, Sootara evokes pin-drop silence and rapt attention.

"I've always been an artist, and it's when I do my art, that everything works.  It's really that simple!  I made this album because I felt I had something to say - the songs came to me and my intuition led me every step of the way.

"Allies of the Heart means just that - the heart knows only our commonality, shared humanity, unconditional love and a greater reality.  And that greater truth is that we are all Allies.  Every single one of us."

"My musical influences include Joni Mitchel, Laura Nyro, and Kate Bush - each for their writing, artistry, and for their vocal capability."

"My music comes from silence and nature - that's where I am in close touch with who I am and with truth."

Sootara lives with her husband in Ontario, Canada.
